Day 1: Madrid – Burgos – El Ciego (18 km)
Pick up at Madrid airport with private transfer La Rioja. Short cycle route into Burgos to visit the wonderful cathedral and enjoy some tapas in a local bar.
Arrival and check in at the hotel with processing of travel documentation. Followed by free time to explore the old city with beautiful Gothic architecture and captivating atmosphere. Gourmet dinner within walking distance of the hotel where we begin our sampling experience of some of the best wines in the region.
Day 2: Logroño – Nájera – Santo Domingo de la Calzada (50 km)
After a hearty breakfast we start pedaling across the most beautiful villages and pathways of La Rioja. On our way to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, we take in the spectacular vineyard views and surrounding mountains as we cross the Camino de Santiago. We stop for lunch in a picturesque vineyard where we experience first hand the wine making process and sample gourmet food and wine. In the afternoon, we travel in private shuttle to the charming walled city of Laguardia, the fortified and medieval capital of Rioja. In the evening we are free to explore the old town followed by dinner in a close by restaurant.
Day 3: Tour of wine farmland and vineyards (51 km)
We cross the valley of the Rioja Alavesa, where the most famous wineries are located and we can stop at some of them. We pass through the scenic village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, viewing the historical castle and church. We visit the town of Haro, the wine capital of Rioja.
For lunch we visit a modern winery with wine tasting and tour of the spectacular wine cellar.
Day 4: El Ciego – San Millán de la Cogolla (45 km)
Our journey today takes us to the village of El Ciego which is home to the architecturally cutting-edge Hotel Marqués de Riscal, designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. We stay in the beautiful Parador de Lerma a converted palace where our excellent dinner will be combined with the prestigious wines whose vital process we have witnessed, from the vine to our glass.
Day 5: Santo Domingo de Silos – La vid (46 km)
We set off from the heritage village of Santo Domingo de Silos whose historical Benedictine monastery has been in existence since the year 954. We cross some beautiful open country with a mix of lush vineyards and mountainous scenery. We travel to the neighbouring village of la Vid, home to the magnificent monastic architectural site of Santa Maria.
Day 6: Sepúlveda – Pedraza (41 km)
In the morning we make a 1 hour transfer by private shuttle to the medieval village of Pedraza. Our route brings us across a mix of mountainous terrain to the Romanesque city of Segovia.
Day 7: Segovia – Madrid
We visit Segovia, one of the most picturesque cities in Spain, which is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. We will travel along the city walls and the river that surrounds the city before passing under the impressive Roman aqueduct, one of the best preserved in the world.
After a gourmet lunch sampling the local cuisine we continue to Madrid by private shuttle. (1:30 hours). In the evening we will enjoy a farewell dinner, as well as a flamenco show. Olé!
