Saint James Way
The Camino de Santiago is an ancient traditional pilgrimage to the sacred cathedral city, where the remains of the Apostle St. James are said to rest. Our journey is a mix of sport and spiritual experiences through the plains, valleys and mountains of northern Spain, visiting villages with Romanesque, Gothic and Moorish styles.
Itinerary
Day 1: León
Pick up in Madrid with a private transfer to León.
Arrival and check-in at the hotel (next to the cathedral), followed by free time to see this beautiful city. In the evening, we meet for dinner at a gourmet restaurant. The hotel is located in the old town, in the center of the city, right next to the cathedral.
Day 2: León – Astorga (50 km)
We will make our first stage through small villages of irrigated farmland. Halfway through the route, we reach the Roman bridge of Hospital de Órbigo, one of the most beautiful of the trip. In Astorga, we will visit the city, it’s c
Day 3: Astorga – Ponferrada (52 km)
We start this stage with a climb to the beautiful Cruz del Hierro, where we will enjoy breathtaking views. Then, after a long descent to Ponferrada and its Templar castle, we will continue through a beautiful route through villages, vineyards and farmland that will take us to Cacabelos and, by road, we will reach the beautiful mountain village of Villafranca.
Day 4: Ponferrada – Las Herrerías (45 km)
We will stay in a unique enclave between El Bierzo and Galicia, a luxury hotel with incomparable views. We will explore beautiful trails and medieval mountain villages, the true essence of northern Spain.
Day 5: Las Herrerías – Portomarín (70 km)
From Las Herrerías we will start a slight ascent towards O’Cebreiro. We will be able to avoid hard stretches with the support vehicle. In O’Cebreiro, we will feel that we have arrived in Galicia, with its stone villages, medieval monasteries and ancient vineyards. We visited the beautiful village of Pallozas and its fascinating pre-Romanesque sanctuary. We descend towards Triacastela, pass through Samos (known for its monastery) and arrive in Sarria. We will continue to Portomarín, through one of the most beautiful stretches of the road.
Day 6: Portomarín – Arzúa (54 km)
Scenic route through small farming villages and eucalyptus and pine forests.
Day 7: Arzúa – Santiago de Compostela (40 km)
Although in this stage there are no steep slopes, we will encounter continuous ups and downs that will make pedaling difficult, but the desire to reach Santiago de Compostela will make it easier. Once there, we will ride through its lively streets. We will stay in the center of the city.
