ANDALUSIA BY BIKE
With around 320 days of sunshine, Andalusia is an ideal destination all year round to enjoy cycling, visit historic cultural sites and try delicious food and wine.
We discover the natural secrets of Andalusia’s spectacular mountains while visiting the impressive cities of Córdoba and Granada.
Day 1: Córdoba
Pickup at Madrid airport with private transfer to Córdoba.
Arrival and hotel check-in with processing of travel documentation. Followed by free time to see this beautiful city, an important Roman site and a major Islamic centre in the Middle Ages. In the evening we gather for dinner and a walk to a local gourmet restaurant. We stay at a luxury hotel in traditional Moorish style located in the old town, near the Mezquita Cathedral.
Day 2: Córdoba – Priego de Córdoba (60 km)
We begin our adventure riding through Andalusia by bike, leaving Córdoba, the former capital of the Caliphate, where we come across beautiful landscapes of rolling hills of olive groves and cereal crops. We pass through fortified villages along this ancient exile route of the Caliphate. After crossing villages such as Espejo and Cabrera, we take in the spectacular limestone mountains covered in Mediterranean vegetation as we arrive in Priego de Córdoba, our destination for today.
Day 3: Priego de Córdoba – Loja – Granada (65 km)
Priego de Córdoba is a thriving olive-growing town standing on a plateau, overlooking the hills of the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park. Now taking on more mountainous terrain through peaceful olive-grove trails and quiet villages, we experience the striking Andalusian landscapes with impressive hacienda ranches and white villages. As we enter the outskirts of Granada, we see the incredible Alhambra palace and fortress complex on the hills above the city. In the evening we enjoy a gourmet dinner and a pleasant stroll through the old town.
Day 4: Granada Visit – Alhama de Granada (50 km)
In the morning we visit the incredible Alhambra of Granada with the snow-capped peaks of Sierra Nevada as a backdrop. The palace is among the finest Islamic buildings in Europe, together with the beautiful gardens of the Generalife. In the afternoon we will have a transition stage and enjoy some relaxation and recovery to prepare our legs for the next day. We will arrive in Alhama de Granada where we will enjoy its famous thermal waters.
Day 5: Alhama de Granada – Antequera (102 km)
On one of the most demanding stages of the route, we cross the Sierra de Gibalto and climb to the beautiful pass of Torcal de Antequera to reach the picturesque white village. In the afternoon we visit Antequera with its many monuments and spectacular Alcazaba. The scenic landscape features spectacular limestone rock tower formations, home to the Peña de los Enamorados, a distinctive face-shaped mountain.
Day 6: Antequera – Ronda (80 km)
We leave this charming white village behind to head into the Sierra de la Chimenea, taking us to a beautiful gorge and the most spectacular views of the Serranía. Following the traces of the Almoravid Route and climbing the spectacular “El Viento” pass, we arrive at the historic town of Ronda. In the afternoon we visit the town to see the famous bridge and bullring. We sample local delicacies, including wine tastings, with luxury accommodation in the city centre.
Day 7: Ronda – Arcos (43 km)
Our descent from Ronda continues as we cross the Almoravid route, taking in beautiful landscapes of the Sierra de Grazalema and the Los Alcornocales Natural Park. Our trail leads us to Arcos de la Frontera, a whitewashed hilltop town perched on an impregnable peak above the Guadalete river, a splendid lookout over the Jerez countryside.
Day 8: Arcos – Conil de la Frontera (65km)
We continue our incredible journey along the Al-Andalus mountain route, enjoying the intense green of the valleys and the rocky grey of the peaks. In the afternoon we arrive at a beautiful fishing village on the Costa del Sol, where we experience the vastness of the meeting point between the Mediterranean and Atlantic seas. In the evening we enjoy a pleasant swim and delicious seafood delicacies paired with excellent local wine for a special end to our trip.
